RN, LPN Requirements: 
The Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission adopted rulesfor an independent continuing competency program effective January 2011. Audits of adherence with these rules is effective with each licensee's renewal date beginning January 1, 2014 and every three years thereafter.

Continued competency requirements include attestation and documentation of :

  • Continuing nursing education. 45 hours every three years.
  • Participation in active practice. 531 hours every three years.
  • Self-assessment and reflection.

ARNP Requirements:
License renewal required every two years on or before the licensee's birthday. In addition to submitting the appropriate fee 30 hours of continuing education must be completed (15 additional in pharmacology if licensee has prescriptive authority) and 250 hours of practice in the ARNP role at time of renewal obtained within that two-year renewal cycle.

Nursing Assistant Requirements:
Nursing assistants must renew their certification on or before their birthday each year. There are no continuing education requirements.
